Why Setting Up An Ergonomic Work Area Is Important
Ergonomics is the science of designing and arranging your workspace so you’re efficient, comfortable, and safe!
Why is it important?
It is about preventing issues so that you don't have problems and or pain in the future. If you spend 8 plus hours hunched over at a desk it is not going to feel good at the end of the day and you are bound to have issues later down the line if this is done day after day for years on end. Poor posture can lead to musculoskeletal disorders like back pain, neck strain, and carpal tunnel syndrome. But if you set up your space ergonomically you can not only help prevent these issues, but you will have more energy and be more productive throughout your day.
Tips To Set Up An Ergonomic Workspace:
1. Get a standing desk: It is best to alternate between sitting and standing throughout the day in order to not cause muscle imbalances and also improve your energy levels.
2. Your monitor(s) should be at eye level. This will prevent neck strain and slouching
3. Choose an ergonomic chair with lumbar support that is adjustable to fit your height so that your feet can be flat on the floor. This will help you maintain proper posture while sitting.
4. Keyboard and Mouse
Additional Tips To Help You Get Through The Workday:
1. Every hour get up and stretch for a few minutes to loosen your muscles
2. Make sure when sitting or standing your back is straight with your shoulders back
3. Take your scheduled breaks, make sure not to skip meals and stay hydrated!
